This year again, Tokyo’s Kappabashi Dougu Street - famously known as the Town of Professionals Supporting Professionals - is set to host its largest annual event in October: the 40th Kappabashi Tool Festival. Organised by the Tokyo Kappabashi Shopping Street Promotion Association, this seven-day celebration highlights Japan’s premier shopping street for professional cooking tools, offering everything related to food in one destination.

The festival is a major attraction, drawing over 300,000 visitors each year. Around 130 specialty stores, all association members, will showcase a vast array of kitchenware, tableware, and other food-related items. Shoppers can browse unique and hard-to-find products, from professional-grade tools to one-of-a-kind bargains, attracting both domestic and international visitors.

During the festival, shoppers spending ¥2,000 (before tax) or more at participating stores will receive a QR-code-based lottery entry, offering an instant chance to win ¥30,000 in cash. In addition, each store will hold its own special sale event, called Kappa-ichi, giving visitors more opportunities for great finds.

On October 12 (Sun) and October 13 (Mon, Holiday), the festival will feature a digital stamp rally, alongside a local specialty products fair held at the plaza in front of the Taito City Lifelong Learning Center.

The festival’s grand finale on October 13 will transform the 850-meter Kappabashi Dougu Street into a pedestrian-only zone, known as Hokosha Tengoku. Visitors can enjoy a lively array of events, including food trucks, a parade performance by local elementary school brass bands, and a taiko drum stage performance by the Tokyo Metropolitan Hakuo High School and Junior High School taiko club.

At Hey Japan!, we strive to keep the events listed on our website as current as possible. However, event organizers may cancel events, alter schedules, or modify admission requirements without prior notice. Check official websites before attending any event.
