How to use it
The pass is digital. Press USE to start it, and it then runs for 5 consecutive days. Each day runs from 3:00 to 2:59 the next morning, so if you start between midnight and 2:59, those hours count as the first day.
Show the IN USE screen to the station staff, conductor or bus driver when you get on and when you get off. The automatic ticket gates don't accept the pass, and the booking email or voucher is not valid for travel. If your phone's battery dies, you pay the regular fare.
If a line in the pass area is disrupted, you may use other transport instead. The pass is not extended.
Before you buy
The pass is for foreign visitors to Japan only. Foreign residents of Japan and Japanese citizens can't use it, and you must carry your passport while travelling.
One booking can cover up to eight people, each with their own ticket, who must all be foreign visitors and ride together. The voucher is valid for three months from issue.
Refunds: an unused pass can be refunded only through the agent you bought it from, under that agent's fees. After you start using it there is no refund, even if services are suspended by bad weather, and a lost pass is not reissued.
Questions
Does the Greater Tokyo Pass cover JR lines?
No. JR lines and the Tokyo Monorail are not covered, and among buses only Toei buses are.
Can I go to Nikko with it?
Yes. Nikko Toshogu is on the official sightseeing map, reached on the Tobu line. Limited expresses need a separate ticket.
Can I use the automatic ticket gates?
No. Show the IN USE screen to station staff or the conductor when you get on and off.
How are the 5 days counted?
From the day you first use it, for 5 consecutive days. Each day runs from 3:00 to 2:59 the next morning.
Can several people travel on one booking?
Yes, up to eight people, each with their own ticket. All must be foreign visitors and must ride together.
Do children need their own pass?
Children aged 6 to 11 need a child pass, ¥3,250.
