The Aodake Chochin Festival in Takahata Town is a summer event that brings together traditional culture, community activities, and seasonal entertainment. Throughout the day, the town comes alive with local markets, cultural displays, and interactive events that highlight regional craftsmanship, food, and creativity.

As evening approaches, green bamboo decorated with softly glowing lanterns and illuminations creates a distinctive atmosphere across the festival area. Traditional performances, including a folk song parade, fill the streets, while decorative mikoshi displays showcase the spirit and history of the festival. The approach to the shrine is illuminated with colourful lanterns, inviting visitors to enjoy a relaxed summer walk.

The festival concludes with fireworks lighting up the night sky over Takahata Town, offering a memorable finale to the day’s celebrations. Visitors can also enjoy food stalls, family-friendly activities, exhibitions, and appearances by Takahata Town’s mascot characters Takki and Hatakki, as well as Yamagata Prefecture’s mascot Kitekero-kun. The event provides an opportunity for residents and visitors alike to experience Takahata’s traditions, community warmth, and festive summer atmosphere.

At Hey Japan!, we strive to keep the events listed on our website as current as possible. However, event organizers may cancel events, alter schedules, or modify admission requirements without prior notice. Check official websites before attending any event.
