BLACK LAGOON 25th Anniversary Original Art Exhibition

This exhibition shows the artwork of the manga "Back Lagoon", twenty-five years after the story first appeared in print. It is held in the event space of the observation deck on the sixtieth floor of the Sunshine 60 building at Ikebukuro.

"Back Lagoon" is the work of Hiroe Rei. It was printed as a single story in the April 2001 issue of the magazine Sunday GX, became a regular serial a year later, and was made into an anime. More than ten million copies of the books have been sold, and the fourteenth volume is the most recent.

It is set in Roanapur, a city in Southeast Asia where outlaws, mafia and hired killers gather. Okajima Rokuro, a Japanese company employee away on business, is taken by the crew of the Black Lagoon, a courier boat that works close to piracy. His company gives him up for lost, and he leaves behind his name and his position to join the boat as Rock. The others aboard are Dutch, a former soldier and the boss, Benny the mechanic, and Revy, a gunwoman known as Two Hand.

The exhibition shows original pages of the manga and copies of the colour illustrations, along with the gun props that appeared on the covers of the collected volumes. Places to be photographed are also planned.
