Godzilla Expo in Fukuoka

ゴジラ博 in 福岡

The "Godzilla Expo in Fukuoka" runs from 4 June – 22 June on the eighth floor of the main building of Daimaru Fukuoka Tenjin, in the events hall.

Following showings across Japan since 2024, the Fukuoka edition brings together suits and statues of Godzilla through the decades, along with a large-scale diorama from Godzilla Minus One. Visitors can use their own smartphones to enjoy a special-effects experience built around the diorama, creating an immersive sense of stepping inside the film itself.

What sets this edition apart is a partial change to the line-up, with new exhibits relating to Godzilla vs. SpaceGodzilla (1994), a film whose climactic battle was set in Fukuoka. SpaceGodzilla and M.O.G.U.E.R.A. feature among the related displays, bringing a fight with strong local ties back to life before visitors' eyes. The exhibition leans into the idea of experiencing Godzilla rather than simply looking at him, with opportunities to take photographs and try the special-effects features throughout.

Highlights of the exhibition

The displays are presented on a scale designed to convey the monsters' overwhelming presence. Among the highlights are a gathering of standing figures of Godzilla through the years, the dramatic large-scale diorama from Godzilla Minus One, a display allowing a close look at the silver armour of Mechagodzilla, and a selection of historical theatrical posters, including the poster for the very first Godzilla film of 1954.
