The Kyoto International Manga Anime Fair (KYOMAF), commonly known as KYOMAF, has established itself as the premier manga and anime event in western Japan. Drawing more than 40,000 visitors each year, the fair brings together publishers, TV stations, anime studios, and a wide range of exhibitors to showcase the very latest in Japan’s pop culture.

From exclusive announcements to live performances, KYOMAF offers a dynamic mix of entertainment and industry insight. Visitors can expect new releases, special exhibitions, merchandise sales, and stage events featuring some of the most recognised names in the field.

Highlights of KYOMAF

Exhibition Area

The exhibition hall serves as the heart of the event, where attendees can explore character panels, artwork displays, exclusive goods, and themed mini events. It’s the ideal space to catch up on the latest anime news and find rare items for collections.

Character Café

One of the fan-favorite attractions, the café presents food and drink collaborations with popular series. Guests can enjoy themed menus and receive special limited-edition gifts, available only at KYOMAF.

Stage Events

  • Talk sessions with voice actors and creators, offering behind-the-scenes insights

  • Music performances from popular artists

  • Exclusive previews of upcoming titles

Stage access, however, is limited. To attend, visitors must purchase advance tickets by 23:59 on August 26, and enter a lottery system for seating. The lottery applies to both the KYOMAF Stage (reserved seating at ROHM Theatre Kyoto) and the Miyako Messe Stage (lottery for front seating, with free standing space available on the day).

Cosplay Area

KYOMAF is also a highlight for the cosplay community. The event provides changing rooms and custom photo backdrops, creating a welcoming space for cosplayers and photographers to interact and showcase their creativity.

Traditional Arts Workshops

In a unique fusion of modern and traditional culture, workshops allow visitors to experience Japanese craftsmanship firsthand by creating their own original goods using traditional techniques.

Family Corner

For families, KYOMAF features a dedicated corner designed for children. Highlights include:

  • Character meet-and-greets with mascots in costume

  • Workshops related to manga, anime, and video games

  • Hands-on activities introducing traditional Japanese industries

At Hey Japan!, we strive to keep the events listed on our website as current as possible. However, event organizers may cancel events, alter schedules, or modify admission requirements without prior notice. Check official websites before attending any event.
