teamLab: Learn & Play! Future Park

Learn & Play! Future Park is an educational project built around the concept of co-creation (kyōsō / 共創) — collaborative creativity in which visitors themselves shape the artworks. Each installation responds to the movement, drawings, or touch of those present, and the resulting work continues to evolve as more people participate.

The project first opened at the Ryubo department store in Okinawa in November 2013 and has since been exhibited worldwide, with more than 15 million visitors to date.

Installations

The Obihiro exhibition includes the following seven works:

• Sketch Aquarium — Visitors colour paper drawings of sea creatures, which are then scanned and projected into a shared virtual aquarium where they swim among other visitors' creations and respond to touch.

• Light Ball Orchestra — A space filled with illuminated balls of varying sizes. Contact with each ball changes its colour and produces a musical note, allowing visitors to collectively compose music.

• A Table Where Little People Live — Animated figures inhabit the surface of a table and interact with hands and objects placed upon it.

• A Musical Wall Where Little People Live — A wall-based installation in which animated figures move across the surface, producing sounds as they interact with visitors and placed objects.

• Hopscotch for Geniuses — A projected hopscotch course in which jumping on shapes in various combinations generates patterns and sounds.

• Sliding Through the Fruit Field — A projected slide on which visitors take the role of bees, water, or sunlight, influencing the growth of a virtual field as they descend.

• Story of the Time When Gods Were Everywhere — Japanese characters (kanji) float through the space and transform into the natural elements they represent, interacting with visitors who touch them.

Sketch Factory

The Sketch Factory allows visitors to turn the drawings they create in Sketch Aquarium into physical items such as can badges and magnets. Sketch Factory products require an additional fee on top of exhibition admission.
