Tokyo Disneyland

Tokyo Disneyland is a theme park in Urayasu. It opened in April 1983 as the first Disney park built outside the United States, and remains one of Japan's most visited attractions, drawing millions of people a year.

The park covers around 115 acres, divided into seven themed lands: World Bazaar, Adventureland, Westernland, Fantasyland, Tomorrowland, Critter Country and Toontown. Each has its own attractions, entertainment, restaurants and shops, drawn from Disney films and characters.

Attractions

Among the best known are Pirates of the Caribbean, a boat ride through a world of pirates and buried treasure; the Haunted Mansion; and it's a small world. Star Tours: The Adventures Continue, in Tomorrowland, puts riders aboard a Starspeeder 1000 for a 3D flight through the Star Wars galaxy, with branching storylines that change the destination between rides.

Tomorrowland is in the middle of a substantial rebuild. Space Mountain, long one of the park's signature rides, closed in July 2024 and is being reconstructed from the ground up, with the new version expected in 2027. A Sugar Rush attraction is being built alongside it on the former site of Buzz Lightyear's Astro Blasters, and is announced for spring 2027. Both are worth knowing about before planning a visit around either.

Beyond these, the park has rides suited to every age, and a good many are indoors – useful in rain.

Shows and Seasons

Parades are the park's signature entertainment, with floats and characters working their way along the route to live music. There are also stage shows and character greetings through the day.

Seasonal events run for much of the year, Halloween and Christmas being the largest, each bringing its own decoration, parades and merchandise.

Eating and Shopping

Restaurants range from counter service to sit-down dining, covering Japanese food alongside international standards. Shops sell everything from soft toys to clothing.
