How to get there

Yoyogi Forest of Lights is a walk-through illumination in Yoyogi Park, first held in 2026. A course of about 1.8 kilometers runs through the park's cycling course area and passes 17 zones of light, each with its own design and name. The organizers based it on the winter illuminations held in parks across Europe, where local people and visitors come together on the long nights.

A rainbow path opens the course, in Laser Lane, blue lasers surround visitors, and in Tree Spirals, rings of light wind around the trunks. In Floral Fantasia, the trees are covered in flowers of light to the Waltz of the Flowers, and a house of lights moves in time to the song Bicycle Race. Other zones recreate the London skyline, send soap bubbles drifting through mist and hang lanterns among the trees. The course ends at the Cathedral of Lights, a long run of arches filled with choral singing. Music and natural sounds play along the route, and some of the lights change as visitors walk past.

The event has the backing of the Tokyo Metropolitan Government, as a project to bring more people into Yoyogi Park after dark. It is also a highlight of the Yoyogi and Shibuya program of ARTE TOKYO, the Tokyo International Culture and Arts Festival. Food trucks and booths serve warm dishes, sweets and drinks. Among them are a fish and chips shop that was the first in Asia certified by the UK fish and chips association, and a stall selling tea and scones.
