How to use it
The pass is valid for one day. On JR, the Sendai Subway and the Sendai Airport Access Line, put it through the automatic ticket gate. On buses, show it to the driver when you get off; on the Abukuma Express, show it when you get on and off.
JR East also offers the pass in digital form through its TOHOKU MaaS service. Show the digital pass at a staffed ticket gate.
Show the pass at sights such as Zuihoden, Sendai City Museum and Sendai Yagiyama Zoological Park for discounted entry, and get a free postcard at Osaki Hachimangu Shrine.
Before you buy
You need a valid non-Japanese passport, shown when you buy the pass and carried while you use it.
Buy it at the JR EAST Travel Service Center on the 3rd floor of JR Sendai Station, or at the reserved seat ticket machines with passport readers at Sendai Station, from one month before your travel date.
You can change the date once at the JR EAST Travel Service Center, as long as the pass is unused and still valid. Lost passes are not replaced.
Questions
Does the Sendai Area Pass cover the train from Sendai Airport?
Yes. The whole Sendai Airport Access Line is included, so you can ride from the airport to Sendai Station on the pass.
Can I use it to visit Matsushima?
Yes. JR trains from Sendai to Matsushima and Matsushimakaigan are covered.
Does it go to Yamadera?
Yes. JR trains between Sendai and Yamadera are included.
Is there a 2-day version?
Yes. The Sendai Marugoto Pass covers the same area for 2 consecutive days, for ¥2,930 (children ¥1,470), and anyone can buy it.
Who can buy the Sendai Area Pass?
Anyone with a valid non-Japanese passport. Japanese passport holders can buy the 2-day Sendai Marugoto Pass instead.
Can I change the date?
Yes, once, at the JR EAST Travel Service Center in Sendai Station, if the pass is unused and still valid.
Do children need their own pass?
Children aged 6 to 11 need a child pass for ¥720. From 12 they pay the adult fare.
