How to use it
The pass is valid for 2 consecutive days. On JR, the Sendai Subway and the Sendai Airport Access Line, put it through the automatic ticket gate. On buses, show it to the driver when you get off; on the Abukuma Express, show it when you get on and off.
JR East also offers it in digital form through its TOHOKU MaaS service. Show the digital pass at a staffed ticket gate.
Pick up the coupon booklet when you buy the pass. It lists discounts, gifts and special services at sights and restaurants, usable only during your 2 days. The booklet is in Japanese.
Before you buy
Anyone can buy it, including residents of Japan.
Buy it in the pass area at JR East ticket offices, reserved seat ticket machines and JR EAST Travel Service Centers, at major travel agencies, or from the ticket machines at Sendai Airport Station, from one month before your travel date. The airport machines only sell passes that start the same day. Outside the area, travel agencies sell it only as part of a travel package that includes the area.
If you buy from a ticket machine or a travel agency, collect the coupon booklet at the Sendai Tourist Information Center on the 3rd floor of Sendai Station.
Questions
What is the difference between the Sendai Marugoto Pass and the Sendai Area Pass?
They cover the same trains and buses. The Sendai Marugoto Pass runs for 2 days and anyone can buy it; the Sendai Area Pass runs for 1 day and is only for non-Japanese passport holders.
Can residents of Japan buy it?
Yes. Unlike the 1-day Sendai Area Pass, the Sendai Marugoto Pass is open to everyone.
Does it cover the train from Sendai Airport?
Yes. The whole Sendai Airport Access Line is included. If you buy the pass at Sendai Airport Station, it has to start that day.
Can I use it to visit Matsushima and Yamadera?
Yes. JR trains from Sendai to Matsushima, Matsushimakaigan and Yamadera are covered, so both fit into the 2 days.
Do the 2 days have to be consecutive?
Yes. The pass is valid for 2 consecutive days.
Do children need their own pass?
Children aged 6 to 11 need a child pass for ¥1,470. From 12 they pay the adult fare.
