Tsunoshima Bridge

Tsunoshima Bridge carries an ordinary road from the mainland at Hohoku-cho in Shimonoseki out to the island of Tsunoshima, off the north coast of Yamaguchi Prefecture. It is 1,780 metres long, which makes it one of the longest bridges in Japan that can be crossed without a toll.

The water under the bridge is cobalt blue in clear weather, with white sand beneath it and the green of the island ahead. The bridge appears often in television commercials and has become one of the better known viewpoints in the country. Most photographs are taken from Amagase Park, on the mainland side just before the crossing.

The bridge can be walked and cycled as well as driven. In strong wind it is closed.
