“Ghost in the Shell Exhibition: Ghost and the Shell” is an ambitious lineup of night museum–style special events combining music, digital art, performance, and in-depth dialogue. Organised by the Ghost in the Shell Exhibition: Ghost and the Shell Production Committee — including Kodansha, Mori Building, KDDI, Production I.G, PARCO, and Bandai Namco Filmworks — the exhibition expands beyond a traditional gallery experience, transforming the venue into a living, immersive exploration of the iconic cyberpunk universe.

Dialogue and Reflection at the Core of the Exhibition

Among the key programs is “DIALOGUE of Ghost and the Shell”, a weekday talk session series held throughout the exhibition period. Creators involved in Ghost in the Shell will be joined by artists, cultural figures, researchers, and thinkers from diverse fields who share a deep resonance with the work.

Rather than offering simple commentary or historical explanation, the series focuses on conversation — using dialogue to probe the deeper meaning of the “ghost” at the heart of Ghost in the Shell. Through perspectives spanning narrative, philosophy, technology, the body, and society, the sessions aim to create a space where multiple interpretations coexist and intersect.

Night Museum Experience: REFLEX of Ghost and the Shell

On Friday nights, the exhibition shifts into a new mode with “REFLEX of Ghost and the Shell”, a weekly night museum event running from 7:00 PM to 10:00 PM. During these events, the exhibition space becomes a multi-layered audiovisual environment: GALLERY A functions as a music venue, GALLERY B offers original artwork experiences, and GALLERY C hosts merchandise and retail.

REFLEX invites visitors to experience Ghost in the Shell through sound, light, and movement — reinterpreting its world after dark in ways that differ sharply from the daytime exhibition.

The ¥5,500 ticket includes access to the regular exhibition.

DEEP DIVE: Music Synchronises with Cyberpunk Philosophy

A major highlight among the special events is “DEEP DIVE / Ghost in the Shell in TOKYO NODE”, scheduled for March 7. This music-focused event brings together live performances, DJ sets, and VR content by artists known for their distinctive and experimental approaches.

Originally launched to commemorate the 35th anniversary of Masamune Shirow’s manga, the DEEP DIVE series has earned acclaim for its deeply immersive experiences, with previous editions selling out and drawing long lines for VR installations. The TOKYO NODE edition promises to further synchronize the philosophical world of Ghost in the Shellwith cutting-edge music and digital expression.

MUSIC BAR “FIRN”: Stepping into the World of the Story

Another standout project is MUSIC BAR “FIRN”, an immersive event inspired by a fictional bar appearing in the Ghost in the Shell universe. Held from February 11 to 14, the gallery space will be transformed into the imagined bar itself, allowing visitors to step inside the world of the series.

The event opens with a record set by Kenji Kawai, composer of the legendary soundtracks for Ghost in the Shell and Innocence. DJ performances blending original anime tracks with contemporary electronic music follow, accompanied by visual installations using historic animation footage. Actors in costumes designed by illustrator Ilya Kuvshinov further enhance the sense of immersion, blurring the boundary between exhibition, performance, and narrative space.

With its blend of talks, music, performance, and night-time transformation, the Ghost in the Shell Exhibition: Ghost and the Shell positions itself as more than a retrospective. It is an evolving platform that invites visitors to think, feel, and participate — encountering the franchise’s enduring questions about identity, technology, and humanity from multiple angles.

Additional speakers and performers will be announced in the coming months, with updates shared through the exhibition’s official website and social media channels. Shell continues to reflect — and refract — the world around it.

The ticket price is ¥6,000 and includes access to the regular exhibition. Entry is restricted to guests aged 18 and over; ID is required, and minors must be accompanied by a guardian. Same-day ticket sales will not be available at the venue.

Tickets are available on LivePocket, Lawson Ticket (L-Tike), and Animate Ticket platforms.
