KAWAII MONSTER LAND – HARAJUKU is an immersive entertainment facility beneath Takeshita Street in Harajuku.
The facility is conceived as a 60-minute, time-scheduled, walk-through live entertainment experience that combines performance, music, food, games, and interactive installations into a single narrative structure. Rather than observing from a fixed seat, visitors move through the space as participants, experiencing the story through sight, sound, taste, and physical interaction.
KAWAII MONSTER LAND is directed and produced by Sebastian Masuda, a leading figure in Harajuku’s KAWAII culture and the original producer of the former KAWAII MONSTER CAFE. The new facility builds upon that intellectual property while shifting its focus toward experiential storytelling. The setting is presented as a rediscovered underground “monster world” that once existed beneath Harajuku and has now been partially excavated and opened to the public.
Experience Areas and Attractions
The entire underground space functions as a unified stage, featuring multiple themed zones and interactive elements. A central feature is Choppy’s Mel-Tea Cup Ride, a large sweets-themed monument modeled after the facility’s main character, Choppy. While the ride itself does not rotate, it serves as a symbolic centrepiece and a popular photo and video location, with a private-use option available through a separate ride pass.
Another core experience is Monster Party, a live performance element involving the facility’s “Monster Girl” characters. Rather than a conventional stage show, this experience unfolds throughout the space, allowing guests to become part of the story as it progresses.

Additional areas include themed food and drink counters, game zones that use original in-house currency called KAWAII COIN, photo spots such as the Kawaii Deco House, and retail spaces offering original merchandise. Each area is designed to function not as a standalone attraction, but as part of the overarching narrative.
Music plays a central role in shaping the experience. The soundtrack is produced by RAM RIDER, who also worked on music for KAWAII MONSTER CAFE. Rather than serving as background music, the compositions are designed to connect scenes and spaces seamlessly, giving the experience a structure similar to a continuous musical performance.
Staff members, presented as part of an in-story “excavation team”, wear uniforms created in collaboration with the Harajuku fashion brand 6%DOKIDOKI, reinforcing the connection between the facility and local KAWAII fashion culture.

In addition to the standard admission ticket, KAWAII MONSTER LAND offers the KAWAII Experience Package, which includes entry to the facility along with two KAWAII COINS for in-facility games, one food item, and one decorative accessory. This package allows visitors to experience a wider range of activities within the venue in a single visit.
