Hiwasa Umigame Triathlon
ひわさうみがめトライアスロン
This annual triathlon in Tokushima combines a coastal swim at a sea turtle nesting site with cycling and running through scenic landscapes.

The Hiwasa Umigame Triathlon, an annual event in Minami Town, Tokushima Prefecture, will hold its 27th edition on July 19 this year. Entry registration opened until May 15. Applications are accepted on a first-come, first-served basis, and registration will close once each category reaches capacity.
The triathlon course consists of a 1.5-kilometer swim, a 40-kilometer bike ride, and a 10-kilometer run. The swim takes place at Ohama Beach, a scenic coastal area known as a nesting site for sea turtles. The cycling segment follows the Sunline route, offering views that extend toward Cape Muroto. The running portion continues along the clear waters of the Hiwasa River. The course is designed to showcase the natural landscapes of sea, mountains, and river that characterise Minami Town.
Participants may compete individually in the age-group division or enter as part of a relay team. Entry fees are 23,000 yen for individual competitors and 36,000 yen for relay teams.
The triathlon is accompanied by related events highlighting local culture. On Saturday, July 18, the day before the race, the 63rd Hiwasa Umigame Festival is scheduled to take place. Festival activities include local food stalls, evening market booths, Awa Odori dance performances, and a fireworks display. These events provide participants and visitors with an opportunity to experience the hospitality and traditions of the region.
