The “Immersive Ukiyo-e Exhibition HIROSHIMA” is a cutting-edge digital art museum, allowing visitors to step into the world of Japan’s iconic ukiyo-e prints. This innovative exhibition uses 3DCG animation and projection mapping to bring the masterpieces of legendary artists — Katsushika Hokusai, Utagawa Hiroshige, Utagawa Kuniyoshi, Kitagawa Utamaro, Toshusai Sharaku, and Utagawa Kunisada — to life.
Visitors can explore over 300 dynamically animated ukiyo-e artworks across multiple three-dimensional projection spaces. The exhibition appeals to all ages, blending digital artistry with historical context to highlight the beauty and cultural significance of Edo-period Japan. In addition to the immersive digital displays, the show features original Edo-era prints and reproductions, accompanied by explanations of ukiyo-e history, Edo culture, and the lives of the artists behind these timeless works.
The exhibition has previously attracted over 350,000 visitors in Tokyo, Milan, Nagoya, Kagoshima, Fukuoka, and Osaka, and received the CJPF Award 2025 Excellence Prize in the project category from the Cool Japan Public-Private Partnership platform.
All areas of the exhibition are photo- and video-friendly, allowing guests to capture and share their experiences as they immerse themselves in the dynamic world of ukiyo-e.
