UNDERTALE is a role-playing game made by Toby Fox, in which the player has fallen into a world under the ground and is trying to get back to the surface. What it is known for is that killing is optional: every monster met on the way can be fought or spared, and the game can be finished without a single death. This exhibition is the first large one devoted to it anywhere, and it opens in Ikebukuro in Tokyo before going on to Osaka.

The rooms are built to put a visitor inside the world of the game. Toby Fox supervised the exhibition himself and says he put a number of foolish suggestions into it, one of which was to donate some dog hair, which he hints may be on show.

The image used for the exhibition was drawn for it by Temmie Chang, who worked on the game's art. Two Japanese firms with long ties to the game are helping: 8-4, which handled the Japanese version, and Fangamer, which makes its merchandise.

Two kinds of ticket are sold, one of which comes with a pin badge and a charm shaped like a koban, the oval gold coin of the Edo period.

At Hey Japan!, we strive to keep the events listed on our website as current as possible. However, event organizers may cancel events, alter schedules, or modify admission requirements without prior notice. Check official websites before attending any event.
