Jewellumination is the winter illumination at Yomiuriland, an amusement park in the hills of Inagi, on the western edge of Tokyo. It is lit from late autumn to early spring and is produced by the lighting designer Ishii Motoko, whose office developed the LEDs in jewel colours that give it its name. Ishii's work includes the lighting of Tokyo Tower, the Rainbow Bridge and Himeji Castle.

The illumination

The lights are laid out across the park in a series of areas, among them a promenade, a bridge, a crystal passage, a tower and spiral, a stream of light and a jewellery box. The rides keep running after dark, and from the Ferris wheel and other rides Tokyo Skytree and Tokyo Tower can both be seen above the night view of the city.

The illumination has used LEDs since it began in 2010, and since 2021 it has run on green electricity from wind and other renewable sources.

Fountain shows

Three shows take turns at the wave pool through the evening. La Fontaine sets film on a water screen held in a ring 15 metres tall, with 226 fountains, lasers and flames. Growing Light, produced by the lighting designer Ishii Lisa Akari, combines water, light and sound. In Silhouette, given twice a night, dancers perform among moving light and shadow.

The 2026-2027 season

The 2026-2027 season is the 17th. Its main theme is again LIGHT is LOVE, light as an expression of love for people, nature and the earth, and its new sub-theme, Growing Light, takes as its subject the green of plants as they sprout, grow and spread their leaves.

For the sub-theme a new light colour appears, the first in two years: a range of greens drawn from gemstones associated with growth, vitality, harmony and healing. It covers the trees and rides of Jewellery Plaza, the square just inside the entrance. The Grand Sanctuary, a symbol object made from the climbing area of the park's pool, can be walked through for the first time this season, and Growing Light is new among the fountain shows.
