Blume no Oka is an agricultural park in Shiga, Japan, offering various outdoor activities. Visitors can explore flower gardens, engage in hands-on farming like planting and harvesting seasonal vegetables, and learn about sustainable farming. The park also features farm animal interactions, seasonal events, a dog park, and local food markets. Ideal for families, it provides a relaxing atmosphere with activities for all ages.
Park Highlights
- Flower Gardens: The park features various seasonal flower gardens, showcasing vibrant displays of tulips, sunflowers, and cosmos. The gardens change with the seasons, offering visitors a different experience throughout the year. In addition to flower viewing, the park offers activities such as flower picking.
- Farm Animals: Visitors can interact with goats, sheep, pigs, and rabbits, offering an opportunity to feed and learn about them.
- Forest Liner: Japan’s first two-seater zipline. Price: Two-seater ¥2,000.
- Seasonal Menu with Local Ingredients: The restaurant offers a changing seasonal menu with an all-you-can-eat selection of local vegetables and regional dishes. Both Japanese and Western buffet options are available. Highlights include homemade sausages crafted in the park’s workshop and freshly fried tempura made with seasonal ingredients.
- ALPSGYM: Alps Gym Park presents a brand-new attraction, uniting Alps Gym and Goemon into one thrilling experience.
- Buggies: The buggies are powered by a 700cc single-cylinder engine, offering a wild and exciting ride on both short and long courses. Each buggy accommodates up to 2 people, with drivers required to be 18 or older. Children in elementary school and above can ride as passengers. Price: ¥3,000 per lap.
- Trampoline: Children up to elementary school age can enjoy jumping in an open, airy space. Maximum weight is 70 kg, and children under elementary age must be accompanied by a guardian. ¥500 per 10 minutes.
- Grass Sledding: Loved by both adults and children, this simple yet fast-paced sledding experience is available for ages 4 and up. Price is per sled, with guardian accompaniment free. Bringing your own sled is not allowed. ¥500 per 20 minutes.
- Go-Karts: A fun ride through the greenery, suitable for families and couples. Drivers must be junior high age or older and at least 150 cm tall. Each kart seats 2, with passengers allowed from age 2. Approx. 700 m course – ¥500 per person, per lap.
- Authentic archery experience. ¥500 for 10 arrows.
- Natural Grass Dog Run: Spacious areas where dogs of all sizes can play and enjoy themselves - Medium & Large Dog Run – 2,000㎡ Play Area; Small Dog Run – 1,000㎡ Play Area; All-Breed Dog Run – 600㎡, Near the Entrance Gate. Dog carts are available for rent at the entrance gate for ¥500 each.
- INSECTS & REPTILES – Interactive Insect & Reptile World: This hands-on attraction features insects, reptiles, and other creatures, including some of the world’s largest beetles, such as Hercules beetles and rainbow stag beetles, as well as rare species from abroad like fire salamanders and giant scorpions. Over 50 species are on display. The experience includes insect and reptile interaction areas, an electric catfish shock demonstration, and a two-minute Doctor Fish session. Other activities include koi feeding (¥200), a festival corner, and original gachapon. Admission plus hands-on experience is ¥1,000 (free for children under 2; elementary-aged children must be accompanied by a guardian).
- Sylvanian Family Play Room: A dedicated space featuring a large Sylvania Village diorama, a shop, a craft corner, a Sylvania lottery, a story corner, and a play area.
- Fossil Excavation Experience: An indoor activity where participants can discover real fossils by breaking rocks with a hammer. Popular with both children and adults, it is suitable for young children and especially well-received by families. Each session lasts around 15 minutes and costs ¥1,000, taking place in the Sylvanian Family Play Room.
- Sparkling Gem Hunt Experience: An indoor activity popular with both children and adults, where participants can uncover about 30 types of unique, sparkling gems from clean sand using a small shovel. Safe for young children and suitable for families, the experience can be enjoyed even on rainy days.
- Elusive Street Performance Events featuring a variety of unique performers, each with their own special magic.
- Jabujabu Pond at Blumen no Oka: The Pond is a 700㎡ water play area set in the greenery of Blumen no Oka. The shallow waters, ranging from 5 to 30 cm, make it safe and enjoyable for young children. The pond features clean, continuously circulated water and shaded areas with benches for relaxation. Seasonal events, such as foam parties and water cannon activities, add extra excitement. The pond is open on weekends and holidays in early June and September, and daily from mid-July to the end of August, with admission included in the park entry.
The park is popular among cosplayers for its opportunities to take photos among flowers and European-style buildings.
Hands-On Experience
- Nature Harvest Experiences, including Summer Vegetable Harvest, Potato Harvest, Garlic Harvest, New Onion Harvest, and Tulip Bulb Digging. Experiences vary according to the season.
- Treeing Experience (Tree Climbing) – Autumn: This activity offers a rare view from the treetops, with participants climbing trees using ropes and safety harnesses under the guidance of certified instructors. Suitable for both children and adults, it provides a safe and exciting tree-climbing experience. Fee: ¥500 (insurance included).
- Craft Workshop – Woodworking Experience: This popular hands-on activity allows participants to make a unique wooden plate by combining parts. Plates start at ¥550, and additional parts from ¥110. Sessions run from 10:00–15:00 (about 30 minutes) in the Sylvanian Family Play Room.
- Snow Globe Making: Participants can create a unique snow globe using their chosen mascot. Fee: Dome ¥2,530, mascots from ¥220 each. Sessions run 10:00–15:00 (approx. 30 minutes) in the Sylvanian Family Play Room.
- Gourmet Experiences: A variety of hands-on outdoor cooking activities allow guests to create memorable dishes, from making dog-friendly cookies and pizza in an outdoor oven to brewing siphon coffee, hand-churned butter, ice cream, and rice cooked over charcoal. Grilling yakitori and cooking in an iron pot add to the fun, making it a unique culinary experience for all ages.
- Clear Candle Making: Participants can create their own original clear candle using a variety of parts in this hands-on craft experience. No reservation is required. Fee: From ¥1,300. Time: 10:00–15:00 (approx. 30 minutes). Location: Sylvanian Family Play Room.
- OUTDOOR TERRACE: The Outdoor Terrace BBQ Experience offers a full setup with ingredients and equipment, allowing guests to start the fire themselves while everything else is provided for an easy and enjoyable outing. Separate booths provide a private space even in the open garden area. The 2-hour table use for 2–3 people is ¥5,000 (tax included) and includes 500g of meat, 190g of homemade sausages, 400g of vegetables, and complete BBQ equipment. Other group plans include the Curry Rice Experience, Alps Gym Set, and Fire-Starting BBQ Experience.
Access to the Park
- From Ōmi Railway Hino Station: Take the Ōmi Bus bound for Kitahataguchi and get off at Habanomachi (about 15 min).
- From JR Ōmi-Hachiman Station: Take the Ōmi Bus bound for Kitahataguchi and get off at Habanomachi (about 50 min).
