Harmonyland

Sanrio Character Park Harmonyland is a charming Hello Kitty theme park located in Hiji Town, Ōita Prefecture. The park opened in April 1991 and is owned and operated by Sanrio. Harmonyland offers a dreamy mix of Sanrio character charm, gentle rides, enchanting live performances, and picture-perfect scenery - making it an ideal destination for families, Hello Kitty fans, and anyone seeking kawaii magic in a natural setting.

Live Shows at Harmonyland

Harmonyland’s live entertainment blends music, dance, and Sanrio character magic in charming performances.

• The Welcome Greetings show takes place once daily shortly after the park opens. For about 20 minutes, two Sanrio characters appear in Harmony Village to greet guests. Each show features a specific pair of characters according to a set schedule, which can be found here.
• The Nakayoku Birthday “Join Hands with Hello Kitty” show is dedicated to guests celebrating their birthday that month. Children with birthdays have access to a special seating area near the stage, where they can enjoy the 25-minute ceremony accompanied by a parent or guardian. The event includes singing, dancing, and holding hands with Hello Kitty and other characters. At the conclusion, birthday guests receive an original decorative sticker to personalize their birthday badge. This show is held on the Plaza stage.
• During the summer months (July to September), the Iceful Parade takes place in Harmony Village. Lasting approximately 25 minutes, this popular seasonal parade features beloved Sanrio characters dressed as ice cream shop staff.

Harmonyland offers a wide range of attractions - from character-themed rides to interactive play areas and colourful trains - especially appealing to young guests. 

Kitty Castle

Step inside Hello Kitty’s glamorous house, decorated with cute furniture and accessories throughout. A highlight is the photo spot filled with Hello Kitty plushies - perfect for memorable snapshots. Visitors also have the opportunity to interact with Hello Kitty and take a commemorative photo with her in a themed frame. Seasonal frame designs are also available.

Rides and Vehicles

• Rhythmic Coaster: A vibrant, roller skate-themed coaster with playful twists and turns.
• Hello Kitty Angel Coaster: A gentle roller coaster suitable for children, featuring Angel Kitty and an adorable ride design.
• Big Ferris Wheel: Wonder Panorama: Gondolas themed with 18 Sanrio characters such as Hello Kitty, My Melody, and Cinnamoroll. Each offers a unique view and photo opportunity.
• Sky Jet: Take a leisurely ride in a Kitty or Keroppi-themed mini jet around White Birds Square.
• Water Shot: Ride through a course with Sanrio-themed targets and test your aim with a water gun.
• Strawberry Café: Spin around in teacup-style rides shaped like Sanrio characters, set around a large pot with Hello Kitty and friends.
• Fairy Kitty Carousel: A two-story merry-go-round accompanied by cheerful music.
• Pop’n Smile: A festive ride with gondolas featuring Hello Kitty and friends - a popular photo spot.
• Spin Trick: Join Cinnamoroll on a spinning skateboard ride with playful motion.
• Harmony Train: Travel between Harmony Park Station and Carnival Square Station while enjoying the natural surroundings. Happy Birthday Kitty Train: Decorated for birthday celebrations year-round. Happy Smile Cinnamoroll Train: Filled with smiling Cinnamoroll-themed decor for a cheerful ride.
• Sanrio EV Go-Kart: Enjoy a time trial challenge on a mini circuit - fun for both kids and adults.
• Sanrio Character Boat Ride: Embark on a slow-moving boat journey through scenes inspired by Sanrio characters.Visit Café Cinnamon with its sweet atmosphere, My Melody’s room featuring Kuromi, and a flower-filled Usahana area.

Interactive Areas

• Sanrio Ninja Trial: An action-filled athletic zone with tunnels, mazes, trampolines, and an air slider. Age: 3–12 years.
• Character Greeting Fun Studio: Meet and interact with Sanrio characters in a colourful studio setting. Location: Event Hall (formerly Fan Plaza).
• Game Plaza: Located in White Birds Square, this area features prize games with limited-edition Sanrio character goods.

Some attractions have age restrictions and may require children under a certain age to be accompanied by an adult.

Restaurants

Harmonyland features several themed dining options, including table-service restaurants, cafés, and casual food stands. Many locations offer character-inspired menus and unique interior designs.

• Harvest Table: A table-service restaurant where you can enjoy character-themed meals at a relaxed pace. The large windows offer views of the natural scenery of Harmony Garden, adding to the peaceful atmosphere.
• Circus Kitchen: Serving items like hot dogs and light meals. On pleasant days, the outdoor terrace area (Kitty Bazaar) offers a casual and enjoyable dining experience.
• MY MELODY & KUROMI Cafe Terrace: Features themed snacks and drinks inspired by My Melody and Kuromi. The café interior includes a heart-shaped arrangement of plush toys and silhouette-shaped mirrors - ideal for taking photos and videos.
• Characterful Marche: A pop-style terrace café offering colorful and cute menu items. The space is bright and lively, making it a popular photo spot for visitors.

Dining Spaces for Packed Meals

Guests may also bring their own food. In addition to the outdoor Picnic Garden, a new indoor dining space, Friendly Hall, is available. Located just outside the park near the exit, it is equipped with air conditioning, heating, hand-washing stations (note: no toilets), and drinking water vending machines.

Shopping

The Harmonyland Shop offers exclusive merchandise available only at the park - perfect souvenirs to remember your visit.

Tickets are available online, but discounted tickets can only be purchased at the ticket counter by presenting a document that proves eligibility. Passport Ticket for 'Harmonyland' includes both park admission and access to most rides and attractions (with a few exceptions for special paid attractions).
