Sail Training Ship Nippon Maru

Nippon Maru is a four-masted barque sail training ship that was built in 1930. It was used for training cadets for 54 years and retired in 1984. The ship was placed under the authority of the City of Yokohama in 1984 and was opened to the public in 1985. The ship was designated as a National Important Cultural Property in 2017. The Japanese edition of the Guinness Book of Records recorded in 1988 that Nippon Maru sailed a distance of 1,825,100 km, making it the longest distance sailed by a ship. Twelve times a year, the sails are unfurled, and the ship can be seen in its full glory. The ship offers the opportunity to become acquainted with her by taking a walk through the ship.
