Yanase Takashi Memorial Hall Anpanman Museum

The Yanase Takashi Memorial Hall is a museum run by Kami City in Kochi on the work of Yanase Takashi, the creator of Anpanman. It stands in Kahoku, Yanase's home town, and was set up to collect, study and show his work. It is made up of the Anpanman Museum, the Poetry and Marchen Picture Book Museum and an annex.

The Anpanman Museum

The Anpanman Museum was completed in 1996, with Yanase as its honorary director. It shows Anpanman and the other characters of the series. There is no set route through the building, and the characters are placed around it to be found.

The Poetry and Marchen Picture Book Museum

Yanase edited the monthly magazine Shi to Meruhen (詩とメルヘン), Poetry and Marchen, and drew its covers from the first issue. This gallery, opened in 1998, collects those cover illustrations and his drawings for the magazine, along with his poems and manga. Two or three special exhibitions a year show original art by artists linked to the magazine and by picture book artists from Japan and abroad.

The annex

The annex holds exhibitions a few times a year on themes such as toys and manga, as well as open-call shows and exhibitions with local links.
