Iga Railway, which runs the well-known Ninja Train, and Menard Aoyama Resort, popular for its herb garden, will operate a limited-period "Aroma & Flower Train" filled with relaxing scents. The train runs on Iga Railway's Iga Line, which connects Iga-Ueno Station and Iga-Kambe Station entirely within Iga City; passengers can board at any station along the line.
The decorations will be installed inside two trains: the Green Ninja Train, designed by manga artist Leiji Matsumoto (known for "Galaxy Express 999"), and the Fukunin Train "Iga no Shiki", designed around the Iga Railway mascot character. In both cases, the decoration is applied to one carriage of the two-car set, on the Iga-Ueno side. With natural, lavender-themed decorations and a pleasant fragrance filling the carriage, the train offers a refreshing escape from the gloom of the rainy season.
Operating periods: Green Ninja Train: June 9 – July 6; Fukunin Train "Iga no Shiki": June 13 – July 6.
In both cases, the decoration is applied to one carriage of the two-car set, on the Iga-Ueno side. On July 6, there are time periods without decorations. The Fukunin Train "Iga no Shiki" is a carriage designed mainly around the Iga Railway mascot "Fukunin" — a name combining fukuro (owl) and ninja, owls having once been regarded as incarnations of ninja.
Decoration details: natural decorations themed on the lavender of Menard Aoyama Resort (organza, yarn, paper, garlands, images on hanging straps, etc.); fragrance throughout the carriage (lavender essential oil, room fragrance, scented beads, handmade sachets, etc.).
Related events: lavender reaches its peak at the Menard Aoyama Resort Herb Garden: June 13 – July 5; lavender harvesting experience: June 27, 28, July 4, 5; participation fee ¥500.
