During mid-February, the town of Hinase comes alive with its annual Oyster Festival (Kaki-Matsuri) held in the vicinity of Gomi Market. Oyster farming is the primary industry in Hinase, and it stands as one of Japan's leading oyster producers. On the festival day, fresh oysters are available for purchase and can be prepared in public BBQ areas for everyone to relish.

The event treats both locals and visitors to regional delicacies, including Oyster Okonomiyaki, a savoury pancake featuring cabbage, vegetables, oysters, and a flavourful sauce. Another local specialty is the fried oysters, which can be served with sauce or even transformed into a unique soft-serve ice cream topped with soy sauce. Besides oysters, various other Bizen specialties are also available.

To enjoy the barbecue, a reservation system is in place, and reservations can be made on the event's website. The Gomi Market venue is approximately a 20-minute walk from Hinase Station. Additionally, a complimentary shuttle boat service runs from in front of Hinase Station to the event venue.

At Hey Japan!, we strive to keep the events listed on our website as current as possible. However, event organizers may cancel events, alter schedules, or modify admission requirements without prior notice. Check official websites before attending any event.
