Kiryū Yagi-bushi Festival桐生八木節まつり

The Kiryu Yagibushi Festival is a three-day event that takes place annually in the heart of Kiryu City, starting on the first Friday and ending on Sunday in August. The festival is a celebration of traditional folk entertainment, specifically the Yagibushi, and the historical Kiryu Gion Festival. Yagibushi is a lively folk song and dance, where participants donning broad hats called kasa dance in a counter-clockwise circle around a mikoshi (portable shrine). The dance is energetic and culminates with everyone throwing their hats in the air. During the festival, multiple yagura towers are erected across the city, drawing thousands of people to dance along to the upbeat rhythms of the Yagibushi music.
