The Mikuni Fireworks Festival (Mikuni Hanabi) is a summer fireworks event held in the coastal town of Mikuni in Fukui Prefecture. The festival attracts large numbers of visitors each year and takes place along the shoreline, where fireworks are launched over the sea. The display features a range of traditional hanabi designs that take advantage of the open coastal setting. Viewing areas are arranged along the waterfront, allowing spectators to watch the fireworks against the backdrop of the coastline. In addition to the fireworks display, the festival includes elements typical of a Japanese summer festival, reflecting the local cultural traditions of the area.

Festival Activities Beyond Fireworks

While fireworks are the central attraction, the Mikuni Hanabi Festival also incorporates elements typical of a traditional Japanese summer festival. Food stalls sell a variety of Japanese festival foods, including takoyaki, yakitori, kakigōri (shaved ice), and regional specialties from Fukui Prefecture. Festival games such as goldfish scooping (kingyo-sukui) and ring toss are available for visitors of all ages. In addition, the event includes traditional music and dance performances, such as local folk dances and taiko drumming, which reflect the cultural heritage of the region.

At Hey Japan!, we strive to keep the events listed on our website as current as possible. However, event organizers may cancel events, alter schedules, or modify admission requirements without prior notice. Check official websites before attending any event.
