Aoshima Shrine

Shrine occupying an entire 1.5-kilometre island, dedicated to deities including the god of navigation and ancestors of Emperor Jimmu.
The Aoshima Shrine is a sacred place dedicated to the god Hoori, the grandfather of The First Emperor Jimmu, his wife, the goddess Toyotamahime, and the god of navigation, Shiotsuchinooji. The entire island of Aoshima, with a circumference of 1.5 km, is considered a precinct of the shrine. The island is also designated as a special natural monument of the country, home to a diverse collection of tropical and subtropical plants.
