The outdoor AR attraction titled “Godzilla AR: Godzilla vs. Tokyo Dome”, located in the Viking Zone of Tokyo Dome City Attractions, offers a first-of-its-kind AR experience where visitors wear high-performance head-mounted displays and watch a life-sized Godzilla appear within the real environment around them. The attraction supports up to 10 participants at once, with real-time synchronisation that keeps everyone’s movements and viewpoints aligned. This allows players to feel the presence of their friends in the same AR space as they work together to defend Tokyo Dome City from the towering threat. Godzilla AR: Godzilla vs. Tokyo Dome runs for about 10 minutes per session and requires participants to be at least 10 years old (with parental supervision required for ages 10–12). The experience is compatible with various Tokyo Dome City Attraction passes.
In the attraction’s story, Tokyo Dome City is suddenly overrun by Godzilla. Participants must lock on to the creature using special anti-G missiles, lure it into a trap, and neutralize it with a cooling system. Players have to cooperate to save the city and all its citizens. Original merchandise will also be available, including themed stickers, can badges, and acrylic keychains sold at select shops within the attraction area. This immersive AR experience blends physical space with digital storytelling, offering visitors a shared and unforgettable adventure unlike anything previously seen at Tokyo Dome City.
The 3D Godzilla model and animation were created by Shirogumi Inc., the acclaimed visual effects studio behind Godzilla-1.0 and Shin Godzilla. The creature designs include models from Godzilla vs. Megalon and Godzilla vs. Gigan Rex, delivering a truly “genuine and powerful” presence in augmented reality. To heighten the realism, the attraction features voice acting by well-known performers Rikiya Koyama (famous for portraying Kogoro Mouri in Detective Conan) and Mariya Ise (the voice of Killua Zoldyck in HUNTER×HUNTER).
