A museum of antique music boxes and automatic musical instruments by Lake Kawaguchiko, with daily concerts, a garden and a music box workshop.
Last entry 17:00. Tuesday and Wednesday are the usual closing days, but the museum opens on some of them (every day in November 2026); check the official calendar.

Kawaguchiko Music Forest Museum is a museum of music boxes and automatic musical instruments on the shore of Lake Kawaguchiko in Fujikawaguchiko, Yamanashi, facing Mount Fuji. It opened on 9 September 1999 as the Kawaguchiko Music Box Forest Museum (Kawaguchiko Orgel no Mori Bijutsukan, 河口湖オルゴールの森美術館). It took its present name on 1 January 2020, when it began a programme to support young musicians and artists.
The collection
The collection is made up of antique music boxes and automatic instruments of the kind European aristocrats once kept for entertainment. Among them is an automatic instrument that was to have been installed on the Titanic. There are also automata, mechanical dolls that play music, which in Europe were set going by dropping in a coin. The installation The Thousand-Year Fortress gathers rare antique music boxes and instruments from many countries in one room.
Concerts and workshops
Concerts and music shows run through the day and are included in admission. One of them pairs century-old automatic instruments with opera singers. The grounds have a garden with a fountain show, and a workshop where visitors make their own music box.
