Mount Kurotaki
黒滝山
A 266-metre hill above Tadanoumi in Takehara, half an hour's walk to a view over Okunoshima and the islands of the Seto Inland Sea.
Mount Kurotaki rises above Tadanoumi, on the coast of Takehara in Hiroshima Prefecture. It is 266 metres high, with bare rock standing out near the top, and it looks over the Seto Inland Sea.
A made path runs to the summit and takes about half an hour, which puts the top within reach of anyone. Thirty-three stone Buddhas stand along the way.
Near the summit is the Kannon-do, a hall said to have been founded in 730. It holds a statue of the eleven-headed Kannon carved in the Kamakura period.
From the top the Inland Sea opens out, with Okunoshima below, the Geiyo Islands beyond it and the mountains of Shikoku in the distance. The same view is had from Koshikake-iwa, the sitting rock, which General Nogi is said to have admired.
