Moomin Valley Park will hold its annual Moomin Valley and Umbrella event. This year's edition takes Comet in Moominland — the second novel in Tove Jansson's Moomin series — as its central theme, with the event's visual identity and installations built around the story's narrative and characters.

Umbrella Sky

The centrepiece of the event is a 200-metre Umbrella Sky installation, in which colourful umbrellas are suspended overhead along a dedicated path through the park. Character panel balloons featuring Moomintroll, Snorkmaiden, Sniff, Snufkin, and Little My are incorporated into the display, drawing on illustrations from Comet in Moominland. The 2026 installation places particular emphasis on the play of light through the umbrella canopy, including silhouettes formed by light diffusion and reflections on rainy days. The Hajimari no Irie (Beginning Cove) area has received an expanded umbrella decoration this year. From around mid-May, hydrangeas will be planted alongside the path, creating a layered display of umbrellas above and flowering plants at ground level.

Evening Light-Up

From the evening hours, the park is illuminated with lighting designed to evoke the world of Comet in Moominland. Along a tree-lined path opposite the Umbrella Sky Road, lights shift through changing colours to suggest the movement of a comet. The Moomin Valley area is lit in bright, playful tones intended to reflect the relief and joy felt by the characters after the comet has passed.

Inlet Terrace

The Inlet Terrace features playground equipment for children, decorations themed to the event, and colourful umbrellas available for use as photo props. Bubble machines installed on the terrace release streams of bubbles across the space. The adjacent Hana to Monogatari no Terrace (Terrace of Flowers and Stories) will feature themed installations evoking Comet in Moominland, to be introduced progressively during the event period.

Golden Week Fireworks

During the Golden Week period from Wednesday, April 29 to Sunday, May 10, a nightly lakeside fireworks display titled Moomin Valley Lake Fireworks — Spring will be held at 19:00 each evening. The display lasts approximately five minutes and is accompanied by music. The event will proceed in light rain but may be cancelled in strong winds or severe weather.

Umbrella Photo Contest

The annual Umbrella Photo Contest will be held again this year, with the first round running from April 11 to May 10. Full details will be announced on the park's official website.

Limited-Edition Merchandise

A range of event-exclusive merchandise will be available at the Moomin Valley shop, including postcards, aurora keychains featuring Moomintroll and the Ancestor character, umbrella markers featuring Teety-Woo, and fukiyose confectionery. Arcade game participation prizes will feature the event's art logo design.

Limited-Edition Menu

Two special menu items will be available during the event: the Raindrop Glittering Mango Umbrella Pancake at Rettura Lounge, and a Sparkling Lemonade available at the takeout food stands.

Tickets are available via the dedicated website and the Asoview ticketing platform.
