The Festival has a long history of over 260 years. The 20 gorgeous festival floats, each with a theme such as a historical story, legend, or kabuki play, set out from each town and parade towards the main street. The towns compete with one another to showcase their skills. During the parade, the floats are accompanied by performers who play instruments such as flutes, cymbals, taiko drums, and shamisen.
