Shibuya Crossing is a scramble crossing in front of Shibuya Station in Tokyo, at the foot of Dogenzaka. All traffic stops together, and pedestrians from every corner cross at the same time: more than 1,000 people at once, according to GO TOKYO, the official tourism site of Tokyo. On the far side from the station, the crossing opens onto Center Gai (センター街), a street of hundreds of shops, bars and restaurants.
Street drinking ban
Shibuya City passed an ordinance on the area around Shibuya Station in 2019, after disorder during Halloween and the New Year countdown. Since 1 October 2024 it has banned drinking in streets, parks and other public places there every day from 18:00 to 5:00. The crossing lies inside the area.
