Sengoku Chronicle: The Battle of Kawanakajima

On Sunday, November 9, 2025, Fuefuki City in Yamanashi Prefecture will once again bring Japan’s turbulent Warring States era (Sengoku period) to life with the 46th Sengoku Chronicle: The Battle of Kawanakajima. Held on the banks of the Fuefuki River, in front of Fuefuki City Hall, this spectacular autumn festival main event combines history, drama, and hands-on excitement.

The Battle of Kawanakajima - a series of epic clashes between Takeda Shingen and Uesugi Kenshin - is one of the most famous rivalries of the Sengoku period. This reenactment recreates the grandeur and intensity of that conflict, offering not just a performance, but a fully participatory experience.

By participating, you can become a warrior on the battlefield. Participants will be outfitted with authentic-style armor provided by the organizers and divided into two armies: the Takeda clan or the Uesugi clan. Once dressed, you’ll join forces with your side to march, clash, and bring history back to life in a grand pageant of war.

The participation fee is 5,000 yen (includes armor rental, lunch, souvenir, commemorative photo, and insurance).
