How to use it

There are two round trips a day between Hakata and Yufuin and one between Hakata and Beppu. Trains leave Hakata at 9:17 and 14:38 for Yufuin, and at 10:11 for Yufuin, Oita and Beppu, arriving at Yufuin in about 2 hours 15 minutes. On some days only some services run, and on days the Yufuin no Mori doesn't run, the Limited Express Yufu runs to the same timetable. Timetable as of January 2026.

The train is a double-decker with steps at the doors and aisles 55 cm wide, which may be too narrow for a wheelchair. If you use a wheelchair, tell JR staff in advance. Groups of 3 or 4 can reserve booth seats with a table.

Before you buy

JR Kyushu says the Yufuin no Mori and the Yufu are fully booked day after day, so book early. If you can't get a seat, JR Kyushu suggests travelling to Yufuin via Kokura and Oita instead.
